Foundation review: Estée Lauder Double Wear Light

August 22, 2018

As you all know, I’m a makeup junkie and I love to try out new products!  I was recently given a sample of the new Estée Lauder Double Wear Light hydra makeup to try out and review.  My holy grail foundation is the regular Double Wear so I was excited to try out the new one!  I was matched to shade ‘porcelain’ (I’m so pale!) so I took the sample home ready for trying out.

First thing I found with this one, and the word ‘light’ probably gives it away, was that it wasn’t as full coverage as I would usually wear so I had to buff plenty onto my skin to give myself the coverage I needed.  Well, wanted.

I made sure I treated this foundation no differently to any other foundation I would usually use so I had the following products to help set it:

-Lâncome primer

-Makeup Revolution baking powder

-Maybelline Fit Me pressed powder

As well as these I did some eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, bronzer, sculpting powder, blush, highlighter, liquid lipstick and finished it all off with my holy grail Urban Decay setting spray.  This was followed by an entire day of drinking, eating and partying at a friend’s big summer BBQ!  I also ended up with a bit of glitter on my face!

Once the day was over, I had had one too many drinks and did something no one should EVER EVER do.  It’s so bad, I feel almost ashamed admitting it.

I fell asleep with my makeup on.

I know, I’m so sorry to have to be the advocate of such an awful crime.  I can’t explain myself, and I won’t even try.  Don’t do it guys, it’s so bad for you!

In the morning, I woke up feeling a little sorry for myself.  But I was amazed that the foundation had pretty much stayed in place despite my sweatiness, poorliness and the fact I had also been out in the rain a couple of times!

Final thoughts

This foundation claims to be; 24 hours, oil free, hydrating, sweat proof, humidity proof, water resistant and have a photo ready finish.

It was definitely long-lasting, it wasn’t on for quite 24 hours but I’m not sure I fancy doing a long 24 hours test like NikkieTutorials did because it would probably kill me! However, I do think that it would last without too much freshening up.  I was sweating, it rained lot and was fairly humid so this definitely worked well.  This photo was taken later in the day after the sweat and rain.

I maybe should have freshened up my nose more than I did because it looks patchy and weird, but I do find that most foundations I wear separate on my nose a lot more!  If anyone has any tips, I will be eternally grateful!

I usually have dry skin, and I didn’t find it too drying which is great for me because usually I’d end up with flaky skin either side of my nose and a long my cheek bones.  I didn’t end up with a greasy T-zone either so oil free is a tick!

The only thing I didn’t like about it is that it’s got less coverage than I would usually like so I had to use more, but I suppose for a nice natural, sheer coverage, spring/summer look it will be perfect!  And to be fair, no one likes too much makeup in the sweaty heat.

All in all, this foundation is great and I would recommend it to people that want something more natural and lighter on their skin.  It will last all day and looks great!
