A couple of weekends ago, we went away with some friends up to the Lake District - somewhere I haven't been since I was a kid (and probably hated due to the walking and the hills) and had wanted to visit as an adult for a while! We were planning a weekend away anyway so I was really pleased to be going there!
Now, I live in Lincolnshire and, as much as I like to take a leisurely wander, where we live is extremely flat and the views around Lincolnshire are limited as you can see the horizon pretty much EVERYWHERE you look. So to see all the hills and the scenery was beautiful!
On the Friday, we arrived and got checked into to our lodge at the Hoseasons Thanet Well Lodge Retreat. The lodge was lovely and came complete with a private hot tub on the decking.
On the Saturday, we headed over to Bowness-on-Windermere to visit a couple of places. First on the list was the Beatrix Potter Experience. As a child, Beatrix Potter wrote some of my favourite stories. in fact, to this day I still adore the stories and I can't wait to pass them on to my kids if I ever have any! This was followed by a visit to the ChoccoBar Hot Chocolate House, that Nicky had heard all about from work to have one of their yummy hot chocolates. We had a wander around some of the quaint little shops and took in the beautiful town. This was finished by an evening of food, drink and hot tub!
On the Sunday morning, we headed off to do an escape room (which we beat - yay!) and then we went off to a seaside area to find some food. There were no chip shops to be found, except one which was closed, so we ended up at Greggs instead and then went into a little sweetshop. We then spent the afternoon at the Lakes Distillery learning about the way they make gin and whiskey. We had a tour around the Distillery, had a little tasting of whiskey, gin and vodka and then spend a good amount of time in the shop deciding what we wanted to buy for ourselves! We then headed back (via a wrong turn and teeny-tiny country roads up in the mountains, very close to sheep and cows) for the usual food, drinks and of course - more hot tub!
On the Monday, we checked out then headed off to Ullswater Lake for a boat trip. We got off the boat at Pooley Bridge and had a walk round. We went to a pub for some lunch, and then found a lovely little off-license and gin shop called Chestnut House that stocked so many gins, vodkas, and also had a little food shop upstairs. We got the boat back to the car park then headed home. It was a great weekend with great friends! I would definitely recommend going there and a visit to the Distillery and going on a boat the lakes is a must! I would definitely LOVE to go back and do a bit more walking around the hills and spending more time on boats on the water.
